NAOMI
FOR many of us, it is extremely uncomfortable and difficult to just pick one job and stick with only that forever, especially for those who are very careful of the kind of jobs they engage themselves with. This is one of my stories, when you get to question the existent of some people, who tend to outsmart you but unfortunately they only cause God to look down upon you and shower you with more blessings.
On this faithful day, in my lonely apartment i remember vividly, how i stared into thin air, wondering how i was going to settle my bills, that kept piling up everyday, i couldn't secure a job of my own for months now. That moment when you feel the whole world is against you, i couldn't help but cry, for hours i wept, thinking wondering imagining. Oh when will all these pass, I kept asking myself.
Yes! I get offered odd jobs, a girl with dreams and expectations, that kind of girl who has it all in her head, how everything should go, all planned out. Oh! Mare expectations.
I cried all through the night, i just wanted to beat myself with tears as memories engraved my heart.
The flashback of my previous boss, How he kept harassing me sexually in the office, because he wanted me to go to bed with him. How he kept making work miserable and discouraging for me.
Hmm-mm, a lot of ladies love these part of the story where their bosses hits on them "its a girl code thing" Well, i had to resign to stay far from troubles.
As tears kept rolling down my eyes as i cried bitterly like a baby that has been refused Ice-cream or toys.
I heard a Knock on my door. Shola! Shola! Shola! Open the door! Its me Naomi, hearing her voice i quickly wiped my face, with the towel that was already been soaked with tears in my hands. Arranged myself and walked towards the door.
What is wrong Shola? I can hear you cry from my apartment, What is going on? Naomi asked me.
Did i tell you Naomi was my next door neighbor and a friend, she stays a stone throw away from my apartment. She was a young lady in her early 20's, who had a daughter around the age of 8 or 9. She wasn't married though, She lived with her sisters.
Shola! talk to me, what is going on, I didn't respond as she pressed further, Did anything happened back home? Are your brothers OK? I just kept nodding Yes! Then what is wrong dear? Is it cause you haven't gotten a job yet? She asked, And immediately tears began to roll down my cheek.
She drew me closer and began to talk to me, like a woman who had just lost her husband. 'Don't worry i will take your CV to my work place today, i heard they will be needing more staffs to work as a waitress in the new lounge opening soon.
I cant work in a club, what will my family say, when they hear i am working in a club as a waitress. She smiled and said, how many of your family members will send you money when you call them for assistance. You need to seat down and think girl, Every man for himself. She's right though, I recall the last call i made few hours before all the crying started, how i placed a call to my Aunt begging her to help me with some money to get food stuffs at home, and surprisingly she told me she had no money. Well, that's a story for another day.
Days past, weeks past and finally i got a message for an interview, from the lounge my friend submitted my CV.
Was so excited, i must tell you, even though i knew that was the list of jobs i ever imagined myself doing in life. Sometimes, God test our faith by letting odd things happen to us, most times you don't deserve to be somewhere or rather find yourself doing somethings, but it just happens to pave way for greater heights.
I called her to give her the good news, i got, inviting me for an interview, she was happy for me, even though i can clearly see now that the heart of man is wicked, deep and disastrous.
THE NEXT EPISODE WILL BE TELLING YOU ABOUT MY EXPERIENCES AS A WAITRESS, WHO I MET, WHO I FELL IN LOVE WITH, HOW I GOT BETRAYED, THE SHOCKING REVELATION OF "WHO WAS SLEEPING WITH MY MAN"
